חזרה לשורשים אח! ירושלים! אפילו צלצול המילה מספיק כדי לעורר משיכה חזקה וגעגוע עמוק בלתי מוסבר, ולא רק בלב היהודים מלידה. ישנו חוק בחכמת הקבלה לפיו, לכל שורש רוחני ישנו ענף גשמי בעולם שלנו, החוק הזה נקרא "חוק שורש וענף". ירושלים בשורשה היא כוח רוחני שנובע מיראה שלמה, מהפחד לא לקיים את רצון העליון, שרצונו שנתעורר לאהבת אחים, להשלמה, לשלום, לשלמות האומה, ונדביק באחדותנו את כל העמים. בין השורש לענף ישנו קשר נסתר, ויוצא כך שמי שליבם נמשך לרעיון העליון, לשורש הירושלמי, נמשכים בהתאמה לעיר ההררית עצמה. וכשהם מגיעים אליה, הם חווים התרגשות מיוחדת. יש עליהם השפעה ממשית גם מאותה הקרקע, מאותו מקום גיאוגרפי שבו הם עומדים. בסופו של דבר, הקשר הנסתר בין הענפים והשורשים יהיה גלוי לנצחיות. בעבר הוא היה כבר מוחשי לגמרי לתקופת מה, בימי בית המקדש, כשישראל עסקו באיחוד הלבבות, וכל העולם עלה אז לרגל להתפעל וללמוד מהם את חכמת החיבור. אבל הקשר נשבר כשעם ישראל נפל לשנאה פנימית. חוסר ההתאמה המזעזע בין שורשה של ירושלים והיושבים בה, הביא את הקרקע לפלוט אותנו ממנה. עד היום, למרות שחזרנו ארצה, הקשר בין שורש ישראל ובירתה ירושלים לענף שלה חלש, כמעט ונעלם. משום שגם אחרי שעלינו ארצה מהגלות אנחנו לא דואגים להביא את עצמנו לאחדות, להתאמה לשורש הרוחני של ארצנו. לאחרונה גם גדלו בינינו הפירוד והשנאה, והם מסכנים אותנו ואת קיומנו כאן. עלינו להתחיל להתייחס לקרקע שאנחנו חיים עליה ונקראת ארץ ישראל, כאל ענף של שורש קדוש, ולקדש אותה בהתאם, ביראה, בדאגה גדולה לאהבה וחיבור בינינו. במידה שנשייך את עצמנו לשורש ישראל וירושלים ליבה, נהיה שייכים גם לאדמתה. אחרת אנחנו עלולים למצוא את עצמנו שוב נרדפים בגלות. בדיוק כמו שכתב המקובל הרב ברוך שלום אשלג (הרב"ש): "עניין הגלות בא רק בזמן שלא שומרים את ערכה של הארץ, וממילא אין מכבדים את הארץ כפי שהיא ראויה, לכן הארץ זורקת את האדם לחוץ לארץ, כמו שכתוב, 'ותקיא הארץ את יושביה'. וה' יעזור לנו שנזכה להבין את מעלת ערכה של ארץ ישראל ולידע איך להחשיבה שלא תקיא אותנו חס ושלום".
